Poetry: #119 Bloodshot (Hesitate and Grasp 11)
A selection from the collection: Hesitate and Grasp
Preface
The struggle is real. The battles of relationships, society, and personal challenges are real. This collection explores all that and concludes pretty concisely:
“Do not hesitate. Do not grasp.”
Or, as Yoda might say in a much clearer way:
“Do or do not, there is no try.”
Bloodshot
He comes out at me glaring All I did was stare in To see where he came from A mad man’s dream to some The pink skin with hairs and Bloodshot eyes and a grin No matter where he goes, he just follows the flow He feels where the energy slows, and moves to his foe The eyes ever angry, bloodshot and confused The destroyer of dreams came from the peace that ensued The first battle of life, social justice and right Brought peace and prosperity no meaning to night Then the crony descended down to the city in sight He wished to make money and fought what was right Living lavish and loaning out cash, he punished the worker Made them forfeit their earnings, for merchandise sold Any who crossed the pig of deceit marched to the murderer on cold feet Hoping he would change his desire the poor tried to fold Give in to the hate and thus the story is told No, dreamer, arises alone No, warrior, equal without Though, many, may try to tout This, story, over the phone And the animal that caused the mayhem reined The people they lost and were estranged No matter their will they were always behind The genius and his disguise conquered all in his sight He waged war against himself to prove he was nice But in the end the people gave up with their fight No more movements he had to make his own Creations of evil destruction disowned With any chance we should go back in time Put forth borders keep him from life The very restrictions he had on all Would be his undoing assuming we broke the wall
Question Section
Some people rise to the top of the ladder. Whether it’s through equal opportunity or something else, some people achieve this feat more effortlessly than others. Can you think of a time when you’ve seen this happen in your life? At work or at school? Can you steel man their point of view? What do you, or should you, do when someone takes—infringing on the rights of others? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
