Poetry: #128 Do Not Hesitate, Do Not Grasp (Hesitate and Grasp 20)
A selection from the collection: Hesitate and Grasp
Preface
This is another of the poems I shared before now on Substack (120 weeks ago and without audio!)
Back to this rendition…
The struggle is real. The battles of relationships, society, and personal challenges are real. This collection explores all that and concludes pretty concisely:
“Do not hesitate. Do not grasp.”
Or, as Yoda might say in a much clearer way:
“Do or do not, there is no try.”
Do Not Hesitate, Do Not Grasp
Reach up and grab the shackles that keep your head from showing how confident you are. Do not leave to the moment’s thought that you will get your second chance. Reach for the stars and as your neck cracks when you sit you’ll know your head is where it belongs. Know inside that grasping in the dark is flailing to the perpetrator, but knowing yourself will grant more understanding to the environment you are in. Failure to comply can result in death, the Maker sees and Fate moves to take away that chance of freedom unearned. No entitlement in this struggle, no hesitation, no feeble movements will grant more than what you have. Stand tall! Do not hesitate and grasp for the railing. Stand fast! Do not give into the prison around you. United and as one you can push back your tormentor United and together your body, mind, and soul can persevere Do not grasp on to any explanation before you Demand the truth without hesitation Grow in the knowledge and deny liars history Reach for your future Reach for the future Stand tall, confident Believe in the cause Do not hesitate, do not grasp.
Question Section
Here we are at last! The end of this collection. And this is not the first time I’ve shared this poem either.
I think I put this poem in perspective rather well back then:
“To be happy is to not have regret, it is to know that you did everything you can each day and learn from your mistakes for tomorrow. Life is about the journey, about challenge, about seeking purpose; it is not about wallowing in our past and worrying about the future or the present.”
What about this poem resonates with you most? Is it the message as a standalone poem, the perspective with the whole collection behind it, or is it my thoughts from February 2023? Comment and share your thoughts and this drop as you heart feels led!

Another poem drops every Saturday and there’s short stories, essays, and What the Book Podcast drops too!
