Welcome to this change of format!
Hey folks! To break up the serialized stuffs I’m adding in some of what I call Simple Thoughts (see also Poem Drop 90 where I first mention these). Instead of simply adding these to a drop, I’ll read and then comment on each poem, explaining where I would go if I continued upon review.
Simple Thoughts 16
For all the problems in the world. I am not one of them. I am an individual, you are an individual, and we are all individuals. I know what I am. I am part of the solution. Are you?

Is this a statement, affirmation, and question?
This is, quite literally, meandering thoughts more than a poem. Yet, what is poetry? Simply put: poetry is the creative use of language and punctuation to express meaning or a feeling, letting go of many (or all) rules of prose. This can be done to create meaning beyond the literal sense or to explain something beyond a literal sense. In my opinion, poetry is thought not suitable or possible to write as prose (the bucket all other writing is classified as).
Why explain all that? This “poem”, “Simple Thoughts 16” isn’t really a poem in retrospect and should’ve gone into my thought journal.
Here's what a poetic form of these same words might look like:
For all, problems are a world, and we are but islands I and you, We the People, together yet separated. I am known, and I know who I am. I am help, and I offer a solution. What are you?
Which version resonates more with you? The original or the revision?
Simple Thoughts 17
There is no depth I won’t go to stand by what is right, Sometimes I just need to research the days and nuance, Sometimes it’s just obvious, But it’s always in sight.

A proper ABBA rhyme and enough creative expression to classify as poetry! However, like many of my poems, it mixes thoughts of the narrator and the mood, expression, passion, and/or emotion of the narrator. Sometimes that narrator is me, sometimes not. My thought about standing on principles that inspired these words didn’t morph how I wanted them to, so this is where they ended. I wanted to express my desire to stand on what I believed in, the feeling of knowing it’s the right thing to do, and it just didn’t take off.
Many of these short poems and thoughts came towards the end of the day, when I wanted to wind down and had something I needed to say. This is a double-edged sword that helps clear my mind but also gives incomplete puzzles or poems for later review. I believe this is a poem that expresses that reality, while iterating my resolve in the face of some trial.
Does any of this spark the poet in you? Try your hand in the comments using the ideas or poems here! Go on! What’re you waiting for?
What are your thoughts on these poems? Worthy of hitting the heart or share icon?
